EFFECT OF SELECTED DEMOGRAPHIC VARIABLES ON THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF SCONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract

The study focuses on the effect of selected demographic variables (gender and locality) on the academic achievement at secondary level. One hundred and twenty (120) students were taken as a sample through simple random sampling technique. Students’ questionnaire consisting of demographic variable was used as an instrument. The chi-square was used to check association between gender, locality and academic achievement. The major findings were that female students showed poor performance as compared to male students. Those students whose belongs to urban areas showed better result as compared to students from rural areas.
