CHASING EMPLOYMENT GLOBALLY: DETERMINANTS OF INTERNATIONAL LABOUR MIGRATION IN KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA, PAKISTAN

Abstract

The human resource as an asset of society contributes toward welfare and development of state. With the increased rate of globalization, significance of labour migration internationally has been increased that plays an important role in socioeconomic uplift of the area of origin of labour migrant. The particular aim of study has been to find out determinants of international labour migration in study region. For this purpose, literature was analysed as secondary data source and a number of 210 respondents were interviewed for primary data collection purpose. The study revealed that factors like lack of employment opportunities, wage differentials, agriculture and industrial under-development, large family size, more dependents, low level of education etc. coupled with other factors caused labour’s migration abroad. Study recommends that the state should broaden employment market for labour at country level and shall frame a workable policy for promoting labour migration internationally.
